Due to a sharp increase in applications at IMPIC, the waiting time for construction registrations can now reach up to 20 days. This is caused by new regulations and the extension of the VAT reverse charge scheme.

Homeowners in Central Portugal who are renovating or rebuilding may experience longer waiting times when registering construction activities with IMPIC. Following the implementation of Decreto-Lei 97/2026 and the extension of the VAT reverse charge scheme to construction services, there has been a significant rise in applications for entry into construction activity. According to IMPIC, in the first half of July the number of applications increased by 250% compared to the half-yearly average, from 680 to 1779.
As a result, the average processing time for applications has increased. Previously, the average was 7 days, but the waiting period can now reach the legal maximum of 20 days. IMPIC has stated that it is strengthening its capacity to handle the increased flow of requests.
